Nightmare check-in leading to a great stay
The check-in process was beyond a nightmare. The property address was listed incorrectly in the VRBO listing and the communications we received from the host, and we ended up trekking up a narrow stairway that led us to a dirty path, before turning around and trying again. We found the property completely by accident (randomly knocking on doors until we found a very helpful cleaning person who invited us in and helped us). Once inside, the cleaning person connected us to "her friend" (presumably the host) who told us that we hadn't paid for the property (which we had, and had confirmation from VRBO of that). She demanded that we pay her again in cash, which we refused. Eventually, the keys were given over, and HOURS later, we were contacted by a second person claiming to be the host who then demanded additional documentation and paperwork be given to her.
The property itself was lovely, even though the closets were full of someone's cloths, the refrigerator had a number of left overs in it, and the bathrooms were stocked with 1/2 used toothpaste and shower products.
In the end, it all worked out, and the view from the rooftop deck (which can only be accessed by a very narrow spiral staircase) was amazing. But the process to get to the end could easily ruin someone's vacation experience.
If this owner can get their check-in process updated and make the home a little less personal with all of the leftover owner items, I think it will be a real gem!
