The space
A great place for those who want to get in touch with nature, spend time outdoors, observe a wide range of wildlife in its true environment, enjoy a working farm atmosphere, disconnect from busy everyday life, or simply enjoy a quiet and relaxing get-away. This cabin offers an authentic farm experience on Wild Horse Mountain Farms, in rural wilderness of British Columbia, Canada. Ideal for outdoor adventuring - hiking, fishing, & hunting. This is one of two cabins on our farm available to rent through Air BnB.

HUNTERS - Our secluded location, surrounded by crown land also makes an ideal hunting location in the fall (as you will see from the piles of antler “sheds” around our place), and we are happy to welcome respectful hunters.
Our cabin, set on our Organic farm in rural British Columbia, enables guests to get lost in the peace and quiet of the country, recharge and disconnect, enjoy the beauty of untouched nature, experience all forms of wildlife and farm animals, have access to endless exploring of hundreds of lakes and forests (some recently charred by wildfire), and experience first hand the workings of a rural farm in Canada. Guests are able to hike, or cycle, directly from the cabin on to endless acres of public ("crown") land. Just 2 km away in the ever popular Loon Lake, with trophy trout fishing, as well as the opportunity for boat/canoe rentals. There are many, many more lakes, hiking opportunities, and scenic back roads drives, within a 1 hour drive. Our secluded location, surrounded by crown land also makes an ideal hunting location (as you will see from the piles of antler “sheds” around our place). Guests also have the opportunity to purchase our farm raised meat and eggs during their stay. (products and availability may change and are dependent on season and customer sales)
Keep in mind that we offer a real rural farm experience, complete with everything each season brings, including; heat, cold, dust, mud, bugs, unreliable cell service, no local grocery stores, and wood burning fireplaces to keep warm. If renting in the Fall, Winter, early Spring, be sure to read the WATER details below!
Please Note: If you are looking for a polished and commercialized accommodation with every convenience please consider that our cabin may not be what you're looking for. However, if you're looking to get close to nature, enjoy wildlife, peace and quiet, and an authentic farm experience then our cabins are right for you!
CABIN:
The historic log cabin was built by a local pioneer in 1942. Since it’s completion almost 80 years ago, it has served many purposes, including a cabin for hired cowboys, and vacationing families. We now enjoy renting it out to vacationing or traveling guests.
LIVING SPACE:
The cabin has one 14'x18' open living space, which includes a full kitchen, fireplace, small table with chairs, 1 queen sized bed, and 1 double futon. The kitchen has a propane stove/oven, a mini fridge, coffee maker, and all the cookware and dishes that should be required for your stay.
The cabin has a nice shaded front porch, perfect for relaxing in the evenings or during the heat of the day.
BATHROOM:
The full bathroom includes a toilet, sink & counter, and a small shower, rod & hangers for clothes, and a few available drawers in the dresser.
* Please note - shower is small and sometimes takes time to figure out the right water temperature. Hot water tank is also small, but enough for 1 longer shower, or 2 quick showers at a time.
ACTIVITIES:
A very popular area for hunting, snowmobiling, atving, kayaking and outdoor enthusiasts. We are surrounded by thousands of acres of crown land - just a few minute drive to access. There is no shortage of outdoors to explore, and hundreds of lakes near by.
THE FARM:
Our ranch is family run and fully operating, with baby lambs in the spring, haying in the summer, as well as many chickens, dogs, horses, cows through out the year. We sell organic eggs, chicken, lamb & beef through out the year, which are available for purchase to any visitors.
The cabin is in a nicely treed quiet & private setting, away from most of the farm action. With a large field in view of the cabin you may see the tractor or atv driving around during haying season, or watch animals graze out in the fields.(don't worry, we wont make this noise as the sun comes up, and there is no rooster to wake you at 5am!)
For your safety, guests are not allowed in pens or fields with the animals, and are expected to respect all pets and farm animals. Please keep in mind that we have working dogs on our farm that are loose in the yard. If you have concerns with this please message us prior to booking.
OTHER CABIN DETAILS TO NOTE:
All linens are included (bedding and towels)
The woodstove is the only source of heat in the cabin, and firewood will be provided for this purpose (only). If guests are planning to have a late check-in time during the moderately-chilly months they are welcome to request us to start a fire before their arrival - advanced notice can ensure this (as we are not necessarily home a few hours prior to a guests arrival, if a late request is made). *Please keep this in mind if you are doing a same-day booking. During the indefinitely colder months we will be sure to start a fire and warm the cabin up for your arrival, however, after that it is guests responsibility to keep the fire going if needed. Of course, guests are welcome to request to have us stoke the fire during cold times if they plan to be out for extended periods of time, and we will gladly do so if we are available. *As we respect our guests privacy, we will not to do this unless requested.
Small campfires may be permitted, but on approval only. Provincial campfire bans are often in effect from early June until September. Campfire wood is not provided, and guests must bring their own. Guests must check with us before lighting any campfires.
WATER * When the temperature drops below freezing there will be no running water in the cabin. This typically begins around mid-October until the end of March, however varies from year to year. Please be aware of this before booking around October & March/April, keeping in mind that we can not predict the nighttime temperature in advance more specifically than this. During the times the water freezes we will provide the cabins with a bucket of water with a tap to use in the sink, as well as buckets of water they can use to still flush the toilet. Simply dump some water down the toilet bowl to flush. The shower will not be useable and guests will have to heat their own hot water on the stove.
PETS:
Pets are considered. A message, and approval, prior to booking is required. A $10/day pet fee does apply (not per pet), on arrival.
Because it is a working farm with many animals and livestock, we require all pets on leash when outside - for their own safety, and the safety of our livestock. We do ask for owners to pick up after their dogs - doggy bags are great if you have, or shoveling and throwing in to the bushes or animal pens will also suffice.
For everyone's comfort we make a point of limiting our dogs interaction with guests' pets at first, (we will keep our dogs inside and only by our side if you have a visiting pet) because we understand it is important for any pet introductions to be done with both owners present. Our large dogs can be a bit intimidating for visiting pets, so we understand to need to have "doggy" introductions done in a controlled manner and only when/if appropriate.
Guest access
Access to walk around property and interact with farm animals from outside of pens.
Access, directly from cabin, to endless acres of wilderness for hiking or cycling.
Guests have their own parking area in front of the cabin, and full private use of the cabin.
Guests are free to enjoy walking around the farm although, for your own safety, guests are not permitted to go through any closed gates without permission, (with the exception of driving through driveway gates to access in and out of the property), and never permitted to go in to pens with the animals. We encourage guests to enjoy the nature and wildlife surrounding the property, although respect for privacy around the yard surrounding our private small log home is always appreciated (located alongside the driveway and between the two cabins).
