There are tons of outdoor activities, many right in the backyard: hiking, climbing, fishing, swimming, cornhole, kayaking, lawn games, snowshoeing, and more.
STORM KING STATE PARK & HUDSON HIGHLANDS
Tons to do including hiking, swimming, kayaking, boating, and more. Directly out the house is the trailhead for the Storm King Mountain Trail.
HIKING & SNOWSHOEING
Download All Trails to see all the trails in the area. There are a ton, but here are some of our favorites:
Storm King Mountain Trail: Right out the front door and a must-do. A semi-strenuous hike uphill, but well worth it in the end. The hike leads to Butler Hill, which is a must see. About 1-2 hours round trip depending on which path you go.
Black Rock Forest: A longer trail that starts up the road towards highway 9W. Cross under the highway to the left for access to the Hill of Pines Trailhead and White Oak Road, leading to many ponds and lakes. Could be an all-day hike depending on which paths you go.
Bear Mountain Loop Trail: About 3.8 mile moderate loop. Very popular.
Breakneck Ridge: A popular hike, and a short drive away.
Perkins Memorial Tower: a 3.8 mile out and back trail.
Anthony's Nose via Camp Smith Trail: a 6.4 mile out and back trail.
SWIMMING
You can swim in the Bear Mountain Pool, or in Hessian Lake in the summer months. Or if you’re feeling adventurous, you can hike into the Black Rock Forest and find a pond to swim in. Both are a 5 minute drive from the house, or if you’re feeling lively, a couple hours hike.
BEAR MOUNTAIN ICE RINK
In the winter months, a
