Escape to the mountains and enjoy a stay in this authentic converted early 20th-century hay barn. You'll be surrounded by the Appalachian mountains and beautiful West Virginia countryside. Our converted barn includes all the comforts of home while still showcasing original rough-sawn timbers and nostalgic glimpses of the past. In addition to seeing plenty of wildlife, you'll also encounter farm animals such as chickens, ducks, and a friendly goat.
As a child, my wife passed this little hay barn regularly on her way to her home. Now, our family has moved back to her childhood community and want to invite you to experience the charm of West Virginia life.
Our newly restored barn has 1 enclosed bedroom with a queen bed on the main floor, a large loft with 2 full-size beds, a sofa bed couch on the lower floor, and a large reading nook built on top of the barn's original feeding trough. This cozy nook on the lower floor doubles as sleeping space. There are 2 full baths with shampoo, conditioner, and body wash provided. The main floor bathroom offers a walk-in shower and the lower floor bathroom invites you into a relaxing soak in its antique claw-foot tub.
The Hay Loft is just as perfect for a romantic getaway as it is for a family vacation. The kitchen is well stocked with cookware, dinnerware, and utensils. Coffee, tea, and hot chocolate are provided. The end of the kitchen counter can be raised for additional counter space or use our fold-away stools to have extra table space.
The Hay Loft's high-speed fiber wifi is great for remote work, and allows you to stay connected during your visit. The 3 TV's are connected to Netflix and Amazon Prime Video.
You will have everything you need to have a peaceful retreat in the Hay Loft, but if you want to leave, there are plenty of sightseeing opportunities nearby. Even though we're miles away from city life, there are several lovely places to eat within 10 miles. We're located a few miles from Lost River State Park, with its miles of trails and majestic scenic overlooks, as well as a seasonal pool, horse riding, disc golf, tennis, and plenty of play and picnic areas. We are also within a 20-minute drive from Trout Pond, a beautiful mountain lake with a swim-friendly beach.
Guests will have full access to the Hay Loft and its back yard. There is a shared play set for children, as well as a pergola with a double swing that's perfect for relaxing. You can have a backyard fire in the fire pit. Wood and roasting sticks are provided.
There are farm animals including cats, a dog, a goat, chickens, and ducks on the property that you're welcome to pet or interact with during your stay.
We're just off a lightly traveled paved back road that is a good walking or biking space.
Our house is beside the Hay Loft, so you will likely see us next door and are welcome to interact if you would like. However, with the keyless entry and privacy fence, you can have as much solitude as you prefer. If you have any needs during your stay, we may be nearby to ask in person, and we'll always be available by cell phone or email.
PLEASE NOTE: The main floor of the Hay Loft is ONLY accessible by stairs.
We're located in the mountains, so cell service is unlikely at the Hay Loft. There are spots with AT&T service within walking distance, but Verizon or T-Mobile have a 5-minute drive to service. We have a guest wireless network that you can connect and call from.
We use a full-house filtration system for the Hay Loft, so you're welcome to drink the tap water.
We're a restored barn located in the country, and while we have made every effort to control insect life, you may see the occasional insect inside the barn.
