Als Askham in Westmorland war, hielten viele es für das vielleicht schönste Dorf in dieser Grafschaft. Westmorland ist offiziell nicht mehr. Askham, mit seinem nahen Nachbarn Lake Ullswater, bleibt jedoch, um Besucher zu erfreuen. Askham verfügt über zwei Pubs, ein Freibad (das Planschbecken ist beheizt), ein Café, eine Töpferei und eine Post.

Die Alte Scheune, teilweise mit Efeu und Kletterrosen bekleidet, schmiegt sich in dieses malerische, schlummernde Dorf. Der offene erste Stock ist eine angenehme Eigenschaft. Geräumige Lounge mit komfortablen Möbeln verbindet sich mit Essbereich, separate Küche grenzt an. Schlafgelegenheiten und Badezimmer befinden sich im Erdgeschoss.

Umliegende Häuser aus dem 17. Jahrhundert umgeben ein Dorfgrün, das bis zum Fluss Lowther reicht. Das Bird of Prey Center ist 1 3/4 Meilen entfernt.

In der Nähe befinden sich der Fluss Lowther und das stattliche Lowther Castle inmitten eines herrlichen Parks, der von herrlichen Alleen gekrönt wird.

Dorfladen, Schwimmbad und Pubs in wenigen Minuten zu Fuß erreichbar.

Ein ideales Gebiet für Wanderer, mit Spaziergängen am Fluss vor der Haustür und nur eine kurze Fahrt von den berühmten Aira Force Wasserfällen entfernt. Gowbarrow Fell, High Street Bergkette und Helvellyn sind leicht mit dem Auto erreichbar. Für Aktivurlauber und Abenteuerlustige gibt es das Rookin House Activity Centre, wo Sie zahlreiche Aktivitäten wie Bogenschießen, Quadfahren, Go Karts, Reiten, Angeln und Tontaubenschießen ausprobieren können. Auch ein ideales Gebiet zum Mountainbiken oder Radfahren. Haweswater und Ullswater Lakes sind beide leicht zu erreichen.

We just loved this stone house called the Old barn!!!
The house was located in Askham where we were going to a wedding. It was super clean and so convenient. Near a pub where other friends were staying and just around the corner from the town store. Very private but central to everything. We would definitely stay there again. Was absolutely perfect!

Beautiful stay
My friends and I were so pleased with the cottage and such a lovely village in the Lake District. Great communication and very helpful. Very handy to have parking right out side the house and great Wi-Fi during our stay. Was such a cosy home to stay in the for the weekend after lots of walking. Thanks so much for hosting us :)

Lovely stay in Askham
This is a lovely, traditional barn type house. Very homely and traditional, some would say old fashioned but charming. We were three generations and used it as a base to tour the Lakes. Lots of lovely walks. The two pubs in the village are great and The Queens Head offers a tasting menu alongside light bites. We ate at the other pub in the village twice - traiditional pub grub. We did lots of lovely walks to Lowther Castle and up into the Fells just out of the village. The house could do with another loo but that is just personal preference! The house has all the basic amenities. One word of warning, Askham really doesn't have any service. The key safe wouldn't work so had to call the key holder and couldn't. Luckily I borrowed someone's wifi!!

Nice location for exploring Ullswater and area
Clean and well equipped cottage, nice base for a break in the lakes, or as for us, weekend accommodation for a wedding. Rooms are compact but perfectly fine - smaller single room may be more suitable for children rather than adults for a longer stay. Upstairs living area very nice to relax in and kitchen very well equipped for meals and food storage - lovely big fridge & freezer. Host was great, and check in very easy. Only small confusion with the balancing payment, as we'd thought this would be taken automatically, but it was easy to sort. Many thanks

Lovely quiet area
This cottage was as per the listing although parking is on the street outside the door. The area is very quiet despite being virtually opposite a pub. 20 minutes drive to Ulleswater or about an hour to Windermere so perfect for exploring.

Fantastic location and the house met all our needs and was a good base
The property was homely and had everything we needed for our stay . The communication prior to the stay was timely and helpful . The location was very good with a well stocked local shop and Communal Garden and outdoor heated pool across the road we could use. Plus several pubs serving food. I would have liked an option to recycle bottles /packing , we dd separate out in case this waste could be collected seperately

Quaint little cottage
We really enjoyed our stay at this cottage. I felt the cottage was clean in all rooms on arrival but cob webs in corners of ceiling and under table need attention. All rooms presented well, kitchen a little dated but actually fit in with the cottage, however fridge not very cold and could do with changing. Overall my family and I enjoyed our stay it was comfortable and was fit for purpose (visiting the lakes). The property was listed as Pooley Bridge but it’s over 5 miles from there so not a short walk to PB as we thought it would be.

stayed with family of 5 (2 adults and three children). Good size property for family and very well located in centre of Askham. One pub opposite and another within less than 5 min easy walk. The Punchbowl was a nice country pub and food was nice (food served to 9). Didnt eat in the Queens Head opposite as only served food until 6. just round the corner was the open air swimming pool which the kids liked and 15 /20 minutes drive to Ullswater. Enjoyed the stay, cottage could do with a little updating but perfectly good enough. No outdoor space but not really a problem given the location.

Lovely House in a Lovely Location
A modernized house furnished to retain an old country charm, we spent a great few days here. Very well equipped too, hardly needed to bring anything. Well maintained and nicely cleaned and prepared between guests. The little village is great to, very picturesque and quiet and just a few minutes drive from bigger towns and attractions. And you've got to love a lockbox! Makes checking in obsolete.

We booked this cottage at the last minute as we were visiting family nearby and there were very few places left available. Im not surprised. Whilst the location was lovely and the village of Askham really nice - there is even a lido next to the cottage - the place was a little run down. It was also not very clean. There were cobwebs everywhere- I dropped something down the side of the bedside table and got covered in cobwebs trying to retrieve it. There were even cobwebs in the kitchen cupboards and I found a woodlouse in a saucepan. We booked through Home Away and I checked their site twice to make sure it had WiFi before booking - but when we got there we discovered there was none. This made things very difficult for my partner who runs a business. There is no reception in the house so he had to drive out of the village everyday to make calls. The paperwork we were sent with directions to the cottage said it was run by Goosemire Cottages and when I checked their website there was no mention of WiFi. Did Home Away make this mistake? Also for a cottage in the Lake District where most people come to walk there was no washing machine and absolutely nowhere to dry clothes. A drying rack for wet socks and boots at the very least would be useful. I think for the price this was very poor.
